MMFF REVIEW: Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote, at si Ako

Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote, at si Ako is stuck in the past. All the elements make it seem so. The jokes are slapstick and old-fashioned, the story has been done several times over, and the CGI looks like it was done in the 90s.

It's not really that surprising. The movie is a spin-off of two old Filipino staples: Agimat and Enteng, both popular in the 80s to the 90s.

There is no other way to describe the reissue of both Agimat and Enteng as cash grabs. Both exist only in the MMFF circuit, and we get them every year. In [year], the two even squared off for the top spot at the box office.

All talks about "giving something new to the viewers" did not materialize in this movie. Frankly, it was infuriating to see. This was the only movie in the 2012 line up that I almost walked out of.

But I stayed put in my seat, however energy-draining it was. I still believe that I have no right to bamboozle a movie I have not seen.
And since I have seen this film up to the credits, I think I have the right to gripe.

Burn

There really is nothing worthy to see here.

The story is nothing new. Three mystical individuals bond together to fight a common enemy, who is hell-bent on destroying the world. The three heroes' clashing personalities cause several hijinks, on the way to the big fight.

The jokes are also as stale as unwanted bread in an abandoned bakery. You've seen and heard all these gags before in previous Vic Sotto productions, and you watch them every day in Eat Bulaga! There is no incentive to see it here.

Lastly, the CGI is so dated you'd think you were watching super sentai shows from your childhood. They look so fake that you know production spent the least money for it, like they're only think of gross revenue and not of the over-all viewer experience.

Hopefully, Vic Sotto and his gang realizes that his schtick is archaic. Perhaps he needs to do something else, or just pull-out of the MMFF altogether.

[Note: I saw this movie last December but only got to write about it now.]
